Amnesty International, a global movement that started in 1961 and now involves more than 7 million people who take injustice personally, is pleased to participate in the Vermont International Festival this year.

Amnesty International’s vision is a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), as well as other internationally recognized human rights standards.


Champlain Valley Amnesty International is a local Vermont branch. We invite you to join our local group, we meet on the third Saturday of each month from 10 AM-Noon. Currently, we meet virtually on Zoom. 


Here at the Vermont International Festival, we are focusing on our annual Write for Rights campaign held from now until January 31, 2021 to mark Human Rights Day on December 10th. It is the world’s largest grassroots human rights writing event. This year there are 7 cases we are focusing on. Please visit our website for details on the different cases.


To participate and write letters, following the guidelines established by Amnesty International, please visit You can also attend our half hour workshop sessions on Saturday and Sunday, Dec 5 and 6 between 1 to 3 PM via the zoom password: Write . We will walk you through the steps to help save a life and defend a prisoner of conscience.


The Vermont International Festival is providing a different menu for take out each night at the O’Brien Center, 32 Mallets Bay Avenue in Winooski. Please check out the festival website for more information. For your convenience we are providing a drop box for written letters at the O’Brien Center between 1-6pm on Dec 5 and 6. If you choose to do this, we will take care of the postage.
